Last year, after some reaearch, I bought a Ricoh Caplio R6.
It takes great photos out of doors ... BUT ... using it with flash is a complete nightmare. With good reviews I wonder if I'm doing something wrong with the settings or if this camera has known problems.

In a crowd shot if everyone is between about 1.5 metre and 2.5 metres away the picture is great but if anyone is closer they are bleached. If everyone is more than 3 metres the flash is useless.
I've been in a crowd where even the cheapest cameras have taken similar photos and no-one has the same problems.

Do you have any settings to change the exposure or something, because it sounds like the camera isn't realizing that the object is so close, it probably taking a exposure reading for the whole room and trying to light the whole room up. So you will need to do some exposure compensation or something.
