Can anyone tell me if the 5d has a tin oxide coated sensor? Thanks.

Hi Frank,

Your question has made me aware that this has been a subject for discussion elsewhere. However, I don't understand why anyone other than Canon service personnel would need to know as I assume you can only get to the 5D sensor by removing the anti-aliasing and/or IR filters in front of it. Could you elucidate please.

Hi Frank,

I think you mean the glass(IR/anti-aliasing/low-pass) filter in front of the sensor? This link says it does, not sure how reliable it is but I have read about this on other sites as well.

Some cleaning solutions such as Eclipse are damaging to the tin-oxide solution so it's something people take into account when attempting a wet cleaning.

That's why I asked the question. If Eclipse is not safe what is?

For wet cleanings E2 is supposed to be a safe alternative to Eclipse. I think they are manufactured by the same company, I could be wrong. For "dry" cleanings, anything should do.
