Hi everyone, you'll notice the Cameralabs forum has a new look!

I've finally upgraded to phpbb version 3, which should hopefully make it more secure as well as providing new features.

You may need to clear your browser cache for the best results.

I also switched servers today, and while this *should* be a painless process, something always goes wrong. In this case, the DNS transfer didn't go quite as planned and ended up pointing to the wrong IP adress, the result of which no cameralabs or dslrtips for a few hours earlier.

Hopefully that's all resolved now (if you'll forgive the pun).

So now all we have to do is explore the new forum and see what it can do! Any questions? I may not be able to answer them as I'm learning too! But hopefully as we learn the software, we can help each other!

I can answer one straightaway though: the design is the default theme. I will be changing this to the Cameralabs theme as soon as possible, but I wanted to get up and running first.

Thanks as always for your support and patience!

Gordon

I know, it's coming just as soon as I can figure out the themes and templates! Any phpbb3 experts here?

Its nota complaint, but I do miss the old site - and I think there are some weird posts being spammed here in the site.

Great job on the move Gordon, keep up the excellent work man.

Ooh, new BB smell :) Gonna take a little getting used to.

Although I have dabbled with it in the past, I don't have practical experience with running one.

Would have preferred to have a member's name on the left instead of the right, but oh well :)...

I just had a good look around for any theme options but I can't find one! I also prefer the user data on the left. Even if this is a default, I assumed there might be more default included templates to check out.

I'd agree on user names to the left - if it can be done. It kind of shocked me when I dropped in this morning and saw the new look. Nothing wrong with it - just different!

I wonder if there is any option at all to have on the main forums page a list of most-recent posts (from all the different subforums together) - something where at a quick glance one could see the most recent 15 or 20 posts made to any thread in any subforum? Basically, the 'view new posts' button does this - but maybe it comes up on the main board index page by default? Might encourage a little more cross-forum hopping, or spontaneous responses and bump up activity a bit.

Yeah i miss the old forum too. Now i need 3 times as long to find my way around. Painting it read would be nice to have again. The blue doesn't fit to the image of camera labs much.

Putting a banner across the top would be a good place to start.

Then I think matching the colours of the old forum would be cool...

Is anyone actually doing this?? I'm no expert but I could help with a start on the basics if needed...but I would need to talk about what you need.

I miss the red colour, looks too much like other forums now.

What is the chance of changing the background colour, the current white or lite baby blue doesn`t show up photos as nicely as a darker background does. Like in flickr, when you click on the large/original picture. It is a camera/photo website after all. Something like a dark grey, dark red or dark green. Text could be a colour that shows up nicely in the background colour. Light green or light blue.

not sure if this is compatible but something like this

Guys guys, please, I haven't done anything to the forum appearance yet - what you're seeing is the default theme, nothing else!

I haven't even started on it yet, but if I'd waited until I could finish the template, then the forum would have been locked for days or weeks, and I thought it best to just go live with it and sort out the styling later. There wasn't an option to install version 2 on the new server.

My intention is to as closely match the previous style as possible.

If anyone has customised a PHPBB3 forum before, please let me know.

Gordon

(At long last - I think the quote button is quite handy, although I do remove the unnecessary parts of the message from the quote often).
