Are you referring to the fact that new users cannot use a Gmail account to sign up for an account? Many potential spammers try to sign up using Gmail, so Gordon had to disable such registrations.

It's explained on the About Us page by the registration info:

"Note we have had to ban registrations from gmail and yahoo accounts due to the large amount of spammers using them. Please register using different email accounts - thanks!"

Unless spammers stop using gmail accounts or the forum software is updated to better handle spammers, then the ban will remain in place. It's either that or literally managing hundreds of spam registrations every day, which would mean no more reviews.

gmail might be a bit safer now as google does a phone call activation now.

I was simply changing my old email address to gmail -- luckily, gmail allows me to manage multiple email accounts --- although not ideal, it works.

fwiw, my email account is actually run via yahoo, although the domain name is my isp, which is why I wouldn't have been prevented from registering when I joined over a year ago.

Thanks for the tips -- I'll just keep things as they are for now.
