I totally agree with the clean layout thing Roy, some forums out there full of adverts (of all unreleated subjects), and the level of spelling and grammar isn't brilliant either.

I did once think that quoting could be inpolite as you are crtitising the person rather than the topic in some cases, but other forums that I am a member of, quoting is used in almost every post, and the quotes are trimmed down and split, rather than quoting everything.

The Pixel thing must be a joke, because the forum software is not likely to allow for it anyway, and someone would have found it out by now.

Hey I've been in other forums too. But believe me or not, I learnt the a-b-c-d of online etiquette in a Russian w@r3z site :P

Apart from that history, I usually chat in irc, when I need help. (Other than qip and skype, sometimes, with really close ones)

May be you did not read the previous posts very carefully. Because, as I mentioned in my very last post, agun said he did find something, and Gordon told him not to abuse the privilege. So I don't think the pixel thing was a joke. Because it can be done, just by replacing the picture which is used for the link.

I have clicked over the area and have not found anything yet, I'm afraid, but why hide something if you don't want users to use the feature. It has got to be a joke - It did sound like Gordon was playing along with the laugh :D

If you highlight everything, then this megapixel should illuminate blue with the rest of the text and images.

It's not a joke - the quoting button was being abused, so we made it harder to use.

You can try cliking the pixel. But it will certainly make you think if you really need to quote because it's so hard to find the little spec.

Well.... if you have enough you might find it amusing to look for the pixel.

The only time I have found the reply pixel is in my own posts just on the left side of the Edit button.

If people want to quote, they will. There are plenty of ways to quote if people want to.

Gordon, The only way to eliminate quoting is to close the forum down. Do you really want to do that? :!: :?:

This is not about eliminating quoting, but maintaining a reasonable level of use.

Excellant idea Gordon!!

No more pages with the same picture quoted and re-quoted about 10 times on the same page.
If posters can't be bothered to back out links associated with quotes and find it neccessary to have box after box of quotes now they can do the work themselves and copy it all...one by one.

As a sometimes dialup user working in the middle of nowhere (yes dialup still exists) there was nothing more aggrevating.
I don't often post outside the wildlife threads but I do lurk about.
Some pages wouldn't even load.

Thanks Gordon!!!
