The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is the successor to the popular TZ3. It features the same 28-280mm equivalent 10x zoom with optical stabilisation, but now with a 9.1 Mpixel sensor and a more detailed 3in screen with 460k dots. The TZ5 also records 720p HD movies at 30fps (with HDTV output using an optional component cable), and has an improved Intelligent Auto mode. The cheaper TZ4 is the same but with 8.1 Mpixels, a 230k 2.5in screen and no HD recording.

The Panasonic Lumix FX35 is the successor to the slim FX33, increasing its resolution to 10.1 Megapixels and its zoom range to 4x, including optical stabilisation a very wide angle 25mm equivalent. The FX35 can also now record HD movies in the 720p format at 30fps (with HDTV output using an optional component cable), and has an improved Intelligent Auto mode. The FX35 will be available in silver, black, blue, white or gold.

There's full creative control with Manual, Aperture and Shutter Priority modes, an improved Intelligent Auto mode, and the camera runs on easily available AA batteries. The cheaper LZ8 version has 8.1 Mpixels and a 5x zoom with an equivalent range of 32-160mm.

Panasonic's Lumix FS20 is the flagship of its new FS-series, sister to the FX-range, and aimed at simpler operation. It features 10.1 Mpixel resolution, a stabilised 4x zoom equivalent to 30-120mm and a 3in 230k screen. The FS20 also has Panasonic's Intelligent Auto mode and 50MB of internal memory. The cheaper FS5 shares virtually the same specifications but with a 2.5in 230k screen.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ18 is an updated version of the popular FZ8, which now features a massive 18x optically-stabilised zoom lens with an equivalent range of 28-504mm. The resolution has been increased to 8.1 Megapixels, the maximum sensitivity boosted to 6400 ISO, and the macro mode now focuses as close as 1cm. Shooting modes now include Face Detection and intelligent switching of presets if desired.
