Canon’s PowerShot S5 IS is the latest in a popular line of super-zoom compacts. This new model sports 8 megapixel resolution, a 12x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation and a USM motor for quiet zooming, along with a flip-out and twist 2.5in colour monitor. The sensitivity ranges from 80 to 1600 ISO and there’s a proper hotshoe to support Canon Speedlite EX flashguns.

Canon’s PowerShot SD850 / Digital Ixus 950 IS is the successor to the popular Ixus 800 IS. The new model features 8 Megapixel resolution, a 4x optically stabilised zoom and 2.5in screen. The sensitivity ranges from 80-1600 ISO and the DiG!C III image processor supports face recognition. The 950 IS also has a time-lapse mode, 18 scene presets and can focus as close as 2cm in macro mode.

Canon's PowerShot TX1 is capable of capturing either 7.1 Megapixel still images or HD videos at 1280x720 pixels with 30fps and stereo sound. The unusually-styled body is designed to be held vertically like a camcorder and has a 10x optically-stabilised zoom along with a 1.8in flip-out screen. Sensitivity ranges up to 1600 ISO and there's even a 1080i component video output.

The SD750 / Ixus 75 has a slightly bigger body and 3in screen. It can focus as close as 3cm, offers shutter speeds from 15 seconds to 1/1500, and sensitivity from 80 to 1600 ISO. With Canon's underwater housing, you can take shots at depths of up to 40m (130ft). There's also a Print/Share button for easy direct printing and it records VGA movies at 30fps.
