Olympus P-1 preview images
Following the announcement of the E-410 and E-510 DSLRs, Olympus has released new images of its forthcoming flagship model, currently known as the P-1. Olympus has confirmed the P-1 will feature Live View, and a rear view photo of the camera clearly reveals it additionally features a flip-out and twist screen.
Beyond rugged build quality, no further specifications were announced, although we’d expect the P-1 to also feature the anti-shake capabilities of the E-510 and we can keep our fingers crossed for a larger apparent viewfinder along with a higher resolution sensor. Olympus says the P-1 will debut later this year.
New Four Thirds lenses
Olympus additionally announced four new lenses and a 2x teleconverter for the Four Thirds standard. Three of the new lenses employ a newly developed Supersonic Wave Drive, SWD, autofocus system which Olympus claims will offer the world’s fastest autofocus speeds when used with the P-1 body. We hope they also allow traditional mechanical manual focusing over-rides, unlike the motor-assisted systems on existing Olympus Zuiko Digital lenses.
The new lenses are detailed below and the figures in brackets represent the 35mm equivalents. At Cameralabs we’re particularly excited about the 12-60mm, which delivers an ideal general-purpose range of 24-120mm.
